This book explains the concepts and techniques required to write programs that can handle large amounts of data efficiently. Project-oriented and classroom-tested, the book presents a number of important algorithms supported by examples that bring meaning to the problems faced by computer programmers. The idea of computational complexity ...

Based on the authors' market leading data structures books in Java and C++, this textbook offers a comprehensive, definitive introduction to data structures in Python by respected authors. Data Structures and Algorithms in Python is the first mainstream object-oriented book available for the Python data structures course. Designed ...

As an experienced JavaScript developer moving to server-side programming, you need to implement classic data structures and algorithms associated with conventional object-oriented languages like C# and Java. This practical guide shows you how to work hands-on with a variety of storage mechanisms - including linked lists, stacks, queues, a...

If you thought that data structures and algorithms were all just theory, you're missing out on what they can do for your code. Learn to use Big O Notation to make your code run faster by orders of magnitude. Choose from data structures such as hash tables, trees, and graphs to increase your code's efficiency exponentially. With ...

Explore data structures and algorithm concepts and their relation to everyday JavaScript development. A basic understanding of these ideas is essential to any JavaScript developer wishing to analyze and build great software solutions. You'll discover how to implement data structures such as hash tables, linked lists, stacks, queues,...

The design and analysis of efficient data structures has long been recognized as a key component of the Computer Science curriculum. Goodrich and Tomassia's approach to this classic topic is based on the object-oriented paradigm as the framework of choice for the design of data structures. For each ADT presented in the text, the auth...

Algorithms and data structures are much more than abstract concepts. Mastering them enables you to write code that runs faster and more efficiently, which is particularly important for today's web and mobile apps. This book takes a practical approach to data structures and algorithms, with techniques and real-world scenarios that you...

ORC. Motivated by problems that arise in a varietyof disciplines, this course examines concepts and develops skills insolving computational problems. Topics coveredinclude abstraction (how to hidedetails), modularity (how to decompose problems), datastructures (how to efficiently organize data),and algorithms (procedures for solving problems). Laboratoryassignments are implemented using object-oriented programmingtechniques.

Linked list is a linear data structure in which each node is an object. Different from general Arrays, the Linked list data structure does not have a contiguous memory structure. Every element is connected to the subsequent node through a pointer.

  • The topics delivered in the following weeks are as follows:Java programming (the level similar to freshmen in CS departments) ... we don't have any programming course after 1st year of college program

  • Computational thinking ... we think in the way like machines when learning programming; the machines think like human when it comes to AI; eventually, human ?= machine

  • Algorithms and data structures ... foundation to CS

In my humble wish, I am trying to show you more than Java itself, but a big picture of computer science.

  • First, implement three sorting algorithms (bubble sort, selection sort, and insertion sort) mentioned in class. Then compare the running time of these sorting algorithms together with Arrays.sort (check its API here). Since the performance of these comparison-based sorting algorithms is sensitive to the order of data sequence, I suggest that you could calculate the average running time for various sizes and make a benchmark for these four algorithms (using the doubling hypothesis), shown as below. You may use System.currentTimeMillis() or System.nanoTime() to make timestamps (remember to use long variables). Note that the actual numbers in the table may differ from mine due to variety of runtime environments. If you are interested, you may watch this video for 15 sorting algorithms.Lab 3-1

Compare the growth rate of running time for each sorting algorithm to the theoretical prediction by big-O. Recall that the first three sorting algorithms runs in O(n ^ 2) time while Arrays.sort() runs in O(n log n) time.

Distributed soil loss and sediment transport algorithms account for topography to varying degrees depending on the grid cell resolution. It has been shown that a coarse grid cell resolution produces reduced slope steepness estimates and ultimately causes substantial underestimations in soil erosion (Aalto et al., 2006; Larsen et al., 2014; Wu et al., 2005). In this context, a 10 m Digital Elevation Model DEM was used in this study for hillslope erosion estimates, as this resolution was found to be adequate in balancing topographical representation with computational expense (Wu et al., 2005; Zhang & Montgomery, 1994).
